Meals
on Wheels:
SCC
volunteers will drive and deliver 12,500 meals this year. This
represents service to more than approximately 150 unduplicated
older adults in the community. Five to ten volunteers a day deliver
hot, nutritious meals five days a week. SCC also provides a sandwich
each day so that clients have something for dinner. Most clients
are housebound and/or disabled. Most are over 60 years of age
and usually need Meals on Wheels only a few months while they
recover from medical emergencies. The cost of this program is
almost $125,000.

Breakfast Club:
Each
Friday, Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers deliver a grocery bag
in addition to that day’s meal to participating clients.
The bag is filled with breakfast foods such as eggs, bread, cereal,
milk, juice and fresh fruit. This insures that our Meals on Wheels
recipients have adequate, nutritious foods to see them through
the weekend. This project is supported by the Sedona Community
Food Bank. SCC was the first organization to create this type
of program in the state of Arizona.
Community Lunch:
SCC
provides Community Lunches five days a week, Monday through Friday
in the Flynn Dining Hall. The same hot, nutritious meal provided
to Meals on Wheels clients is served to adults in a social atmosphere
at the Sedona Community Center. Volunteers set up, serve and clean
up. Informative guest speakers bring pertinent information to
the group. Lunch is $6 for those under 60 years of age, and we
request a donation of $3 of those who are 60 and over. SCC expects
to serve 10,000 meals to over 200 unduplicated senior adults in
2007. The total cost of this program is $100,000.
Telecare:
In
1999, our Telecare program officially began with only six clients.
Currently, there are over a dozen seniors phoned daily with a
telephone reassurance call by dedicated volunteers. If no one
answers, the volunteer will proceed to contact family and, if
necessary, the police are contacted until the client is located.
Transportation:
The
Sedona Community Foundation, the City of Sedona, the Arizona Community
Foundation, and Yavapai County have made donations to operate
the only handicapped accessible van in Sedona. In addition, SCC
has purchased a second van to increase accessibility. Our drivers
give senior adults “door-to-door” service to the store,
bank and doctor. Service is available Monday through Friday from
8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. We are also on-call to provide rides for the
handicapped. Ask for our transportation schedule.
