In 1984, Margaret Flynn and a friend started the Meals on Wheels program out of their homes providing a much needed service to the local community. This project soon grew to such proportions that they could no longer prepare the meals in their homes even with the donations provided by local stores such as Bashas and Weber’s. Kachina Point was contacted and agreed to provide meals which they transported to the old “Yellow Front/Checker Auto” strip mall where they chained a large cooler to the light pole in front of the Flicker Shack and dropped the meals there. The volunteer drivers then picked up the meals and distributed them. In 1985 the Meals on Wheels program was adopted and still resides with us at the Center.
“Presently in Sedona there is no single facility to meet the needs and requirements of the entire adult community and to serve as a center for adult activities. There is no one facility that typifies a community center for the residents of Sedona. Not to detract from activities now presented for the adult population of Sedona, but to create an inter-generational exchange of ideas, energies, and viewpoints… this is the scope and vision of the Adult Community Center of Sedona, Inc.”

At the heart of our services is Meals on Wheels. The Center is the only provider of home-delivered hot, nutritious, meals in the greater Sedona and Village of Oak Creek areas. Our menu is especially developed for diabetic, heart health, and age-related nutrient support. Additionally, along with the Monday through Friday home deliveries, a small bag of breakfast type items is delivered on Friday’s to the clients that request it. A very affordable lunch is available on site, Monday through Friday. We also have Pet Food Program exclusively for our Meals on Wheels clients.
We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Sedona Community Center is a nonprofit organization, 501(c)(3) as ruled by the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Arizona. For 40+ years, we have provided critical services to residents of Sedona and the greater Sedona area.
Meals on Wheels: Meals are delivered in Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. In addition to the Friday meal, all clients are eligible for an optional bag of breakfast foods delivered to assist with nutrition over the weekend. Meals on Wheels is neither a charity nor a welfare program but a way to assist those who are unable to shop and/or cook for themselves. Meals are funded by donations, fundraising, government funding, and client contributions. Income does not determine eligibility and referrals are not required for service.
Pet Project: People who are on Meals on Wheels love their pets – no doubt about that. In 2013 Pet Project was born, what better way to help these people take care of their pets. The program started by a grant from Meals on Wheels of America, private donations and help from us. The project is open only to Meals on Wheels clients. The main services provided include delivery of quality dog and cat food, occasional grooming, and some veterinarian care. Currently this program is 100% funded by private donations.
Community Lunch: We invite all members of the community to join us in our dining room for a delicious hot meal. Enjoy the friendly atmosphere, meet and make new friends. Lunch is served promptly at noon, Monday through Friday, reservations are required. A suggested contribution of $7.00 for those 60 and older is appreciated, (59 and under is a $10.00 required payment). All ages are welcome.
Grief Support: Life After Loss is a support group for those who have suffered a loss, sponsored by the Sedona Community Center and Hospice Compassus. Meetings are held once a week in a quiet private setting at the Center and is non-denominational.
Educational and Fitness Programs: A wide range of fitness classes are offered as well as art classes. Programs may vary throughout the year. Please visit the Classes tab above for a current description and schedule.
Facility Rental and On-Site Catering: We have two great rooms as well as an outdoor patio available for your meeting or special occasion. Our award winning kitchen will work with you to create the perfect menu for your event. Please call 928-282-2834 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
